Hot Air Coal Stoker Stove: Alaska channing
Coal Size/Type: Rice

Post by Jeff27 » Tue. Jan. 29, 2019 9:35 pm

I'm in the process of installing my channing stove. I went with the power vent option, I'm doing a quick install until I can do a 'nice' install during the summer.
I cut a hole in the wall out through the vinyl siding, threw a few screws in, and spray foamed behind it.
Inside I'm getting a lot of cold air coming in around the vent, and through the outer wall of the vent, maybe normal.
I'm attaching a picture, I'm wondering if this has to come in the room past the drywall. If so... How? Also, is the insulation not supposed to be touching the outside of the vent in the wall?
Thanks for the help

No, this isn't for make up air, it's the power vent.

And thanks for the instructions, I have those, I plan on using them to start the wood stove. I'm looking real world Ron that has maybe installed one

No jeff you miss my point, I know what the PV does. If the room is too tight it will suck air from somewhere and a leaky wall is just fine. Open a window and see it is better.

I'm primarily just trying to figure out if I need an extension to bring this into the room further, and if it's ok to have insulation against it

Insulation is fine against it and no it is just fine where it sits.
