Hot Air Coal Stoker Furnace: Alaska 140 paddle feed

Post by Gorpa » Sun. Jan. 13, 2019 10:04 pm

I haven't taken the gearbox off the tray yet to see what brand it is. I just. got it Dec 6th with the whole new second feeder. I had to wait about a month after I ordered it till it came in. They said the hold up problem was with the waiting on the motors. I assume it's the new design. I want to talk to them first before I take it off the tray. I haven't found any unusual size coal or rocks in mine.

I had spoke with Brian At Alaska, He was Great to deal with ! We went through the new motor and gearbox but it kept stopping (had it hooked up to a power cord outside of the stove) it just may be a problem with the new motor/gearbox !! Maybe Alaska will send you a new one at no cost !!!

Ok all long time coming update The New gearbox &motor (ran 4 days and broke a tooth on a gear) the company sent back (Avery-Gleason) the gearbox/motor so now I have a spare ! Alaska was Great in sending a replacement and Blaschek Coal paid for 1st motor due to rock in coal, cost me $8 to ship motor back to manufacturer and they repaired so I considered it all a win win thanks all

Not sure, I bought this stove in 2012 (made in 7/11) never realized they never had a safety for the motor this is the assembly, the rectangular block attaches the gearbox to the feed paddle. I was looking at drilling a hole in the paddle shaft to create a shear pin or do this

to replace the block (replaceable center if jammed for $8)

Honestly I think they make about $100 per gear motor. So like every thing it’s a $$$ maker ! LOL

Shear pin is good for saving $$Motor/Gears$$...maybe up the protection and add some fingers or a cage to exclude oversize pieces from reaching the rotating paddle blade???

I have a large bin that I dump my bags of coal in so I can check it for oversized pieces (and it can dry out some) then scoop it into 5gal buckets to bring into house by stove
