Hot Air Coal Stoker Stove: Alaska 140 single
Coal Size/Type: Rice

This ties into my other post. Im wondering how much savings can be had with a programable thermostat. Currently I have a digital dial type honeywell with 2 wires. It does what its supposed to, but Im wondering if I can cut down on coal usage by programing temps in around 65 while we are all gone during the day, but have it kick on before we get home. Any input will be much appreciated since im in the research phase of my decision.

Most thermostats only use 2 wires. Coal takes time to react, probably get going and over shoot, unless you don't change the temp too much. you'd have to set it maybe an hour before get up to temps. It might help. worth a try!
i have a LUX digital on my one coal stove, it maintains well. I only change it a deg. or two and put it on hold to maintain temps.

Yes, you can install a programmable thermostat and use it to save some coal. Not everyone likes them or thinks the setback is worth it, but if setup properly there will be some small savings.
