Keystoker Koker Issue

I have a Koker which I have used for the past 5-6 years. I lit today for the first time this season and a short time later the house was getting too hot. I checked and the fire was too big and far back. I also found a red hot piece of steel in the fire. I shut down and raked the fire out. After all cooled I see the piece is from the top rear where the coal is pushed into the fire. Any idea how to fix this? The two screws are broken off. Looks like a pain in the ass...

I'll agree with your assessment. My Koker is running right now so I can't really see how to get at those screws. I'll attach a photo that may help you.

I had the same thing except I caught it before it totally dropped, I got it fixed without taking anything but the coal out but for the life of me I can't recall how. I got the screws out with a pair of needle nosed vice grips & they came out pretty easy. I'll have to go look & see if anything comes back to me but I believe it was a pretty easy replacement otherwise I would have remembered.

Thanks. I assume it screws up from the bottom. I'll work the broken pieces out and see if I can get bolts instead of screws. A socket will probably be easier. Just not alot of room to work there!

After looking at CoaLen's pics, it's on top and screwed top down...

Samhill, did you remove the hopper or work from inside the stove?

Check your threads in the plate in your hand before you try to install it. Put the new machine screws (Lowe's?) into the holes to clean the threads. Take the plate with you and make sure you have the right screws.

No Qball, I've so far never had mine apart (maybe should have), I looked at mine & it remains tight. I used SS screws & am lucky enough to have some thin ratcheting screw drivers that I could use.

Plate isn't threaded. I'm trying to get the broken threaded pieces out of stove. Burn coal they said, it's fun

More than one way to skin a cat. Royal PIA but I cannot belive how much crap was in there! I must have got a gallon of fines and crap cleaned out! Had to drill out the broken screws and replaced with stainless bolts.

Good job Qball. A lot of work but you did it the right way. I was just sitting here wondering how you were making out. Thanks for the follow-up.
Looking at the photos, I wonder why that plate needs to be a bolt-in rather than part of the plate it's bolted to. Would have eliminated the problem of it working loose.

I thought the same, just make it bigger to begin with. I was going to weld it but I figured they designed it this way for a reason. Either way I now know how to remove everything from my stove! It's so clean it was burning too hot when I started her up that I had to cut back on coal feed.
