Hello from first timer and I might have been taken?

I bought a Channing 2 online and had it shipped, fella sounded honest and all so I bought the stove and when received was gravely disappointed in its condition as he said all was good and "no issues". Gasket on the door for sure needs replacing even though new due to heavy rust, he claims unit is only 5 years old but tag is missing to say. Hopper connection in rear at seal is not secure and heavy rust with flaking of 1/8" is in many places with large pieces fallen off, though seems very strong and sturdy still. Question is how do i determine if safe, thanks!

Was thinking pressure washer? I was also wondering what are the possible escape points for CO? Obviously the door and the flue etc but what about the hopper connection? Any help is greatly appreciated!

If the unit seems solid and sturdy it just needs some TLC. Clean it up good and give it shot of high temp Rustoleum. Replace the gaskets that seem weathered badly. Provided everything works and there are no places where it has rusted completely thru you should be okay.

Escaping Carbon Monoxide is usually a case of chimney draft loss or because the fire box goes positive pressure for some reason.
