longer hose and move vac outside...swimming pool hose can be had at 50 feet long.
can also make it more handy w/ added switch rigged inside to turn on/off outside

I built this setup a few years ago. I got tired a clogged filter bags. With the dust deputy setup I change my filter bag once a year or sometimes longer. The bag stays almost spotless even after my yearly clean out. It's not the prettiest vacuum, but I have an unfinished basement so it fits right in.

I use a 35 year old Sears 5 gal shop vac with the washable, reusable pleated paper filters. Catches all the dust better than some of the newer dust bag type vacs. You some times see them at garage and yard sales. And I think you can still order the washable filters through Sears.

When the rpms start to get a bit higher I know it's time to wash off the filter. Then the stove returns the cleaning favor by doing a good job of drying the filter.

I use this cheapo Hoover canister vac, with the small attachments rather than the floor brush. With a good brand-name Hoover bag and a couple replaceable foam filters it does great. Doesn't have a lot of suction, but plenty for moving fly ash.
