Buy a new furnace & possibly a propane unit for the garage....
Do without DHW from coal heat...

OR...
Buy a refurbished EFM520,run pex to a modine style heater unit in your garage (this part of the project can wait until funds are again available),enjoy the temp of your choice in the garage, install an exchanger in a duct work box & run duct from it to the 3 zones, you will also have DHW...

Get a good sized tablet, pencil & calculator & you will find this way is not so crazy expensive after all....
The savings with this choice will be bigger & will offset the extra that you might put into the project. :)
The way my plenum is set up I would need two heat exchangers (I think). There is AC coil inside and from what I read they said to keep it at least a foot away. This will put it Midway or above the small duct heading off of left side. Any idea what I should do there? My house is L shaped small run feed kitchen and mud room the large run feeds the rest of the house.

Maybe tip air coil on a 45* angle with low end below take off duct to kitchen and high side opposite.

Just some food for thought.

Best Wishes to getting where you can be happy.

What are the dimensions of each duct take-off?

What is the by/hr rating of your propane furnace?

Two ducts leaving the plenum are 10*26 and 10*16.
The furnace is 90,000 BTU

Does the propane furnace do a good job heating your house?

It's expensive and seems like It kicks on very often. But it does heat the house. But there are no heat register in basement. Additional 1600 ish SQ ft some finished some not. I have a wood shop so I intend to heat it. It was consistently 55 deg this winter.
