Hot Air Coal Stoker Furnace: KOKER 160
Coal Size/Type: Rice

Post by PA-Ric » Thu. Dec. 28, 2017 12:51 pm

Hi everyone .
New to the site here looks like a lot of good information to be had on here .
I am running a keystoker koker 160 now for about 5 years and love it . It is vented thru the chimney
and I use a dial thermostat to control the temperature . It works ok but I am thinking of getting a
programmable thermostat . Any recommendations .

I don't use a programmable 'stat but I did upgrade a few years ago from the bi-metallic dial to an inexpensive digital 'stat, a simple Honeywell. I think it was about $20 at a big box, impulse buy when picking up a new CO monitor. I figured I would try it and am glad I did.

It works much better as I bump the temp a couple degrees one way or the other to adjust for outside temps or inside kitchen heat from cooking sessions.

I have a standard LUX (Valu home center) Digital on my Keystoker, works good. I don't use setback or anything, just leave it at a certain temp and it maintains nicely.

You're on the right track. So many are missing out on a good thing when using a crap thermostat.

I also use a Lux programmable thermostat for controlling both my Alaska stoker and Central Air Conditioning.
