I stand corrected! Checking the manual for the dvc500b, it states:
"The DVC-500 operates with a negative pressure firebox as a safety feature. The control continuously adjusts the draft motor speed to maintain a safe firebox negative static pressure."
The stove uses a combustion blower and a draft blower......The cutaway diagram did not show this.

Direct vent coal stoves work the same way direct vent oil boilers or furnaces work. These have proven to be more reliable than power vented oil boilers/furnaces.

A Oil burner is ONLY a INTERMITTENT fire cycle...whereas COAL fire is a 24/7 venting requirements...hardly Apples to Apples.

My eshland 260 stoker boiler is a 1984, to the best of my knowledge everything is original, combustion motor and ash motor, bearings and ash grate. It is hooked to a block chimney so no direct or power vent. The combustion fan is a 3/4 hp fan, idk how much electric it uses, because I could care less lol
The hopper is a little rusty, I am planning on building a new one this summer.
I put coal in and empty my ash pan every 6th or 7th day.
