If you leave out direct vent noise (i.e., assume you have a chimney), is a 90+k coal stoker stove noisier than a pellet stove? More or less likely to randomly stop working properly?

It cost me roughly 400 dollars in materials for a 24’ block chimney, 8” square tile flue, and a bag of zone a lite for insulation. Took me about 8 hours to put up to 14’, I have to finish the other 10’ when I build the garage.

"MOST concerned"homeskillet wrote: ↑Sun. Dec. 17, 2017 11:57 amFolks, I am most concerned with the reliability and to a certain extent noise.
The obvious answer is ..
Hand fed stove, hooked to a chimney...
Both are reliable & QUIET.
NOW, b4 some get their feathers all fluffed...
I am not holding the OP at gun point while typing those suggestions.
It is ONLY my suggestion, based on my opinion/preference & is an alternative choice for the OP to consider.
A suggestion that seems to fit the desire noted above.

I think building a chimney would be a fun project. But that's from somebody that also put a new roof on his house by himself, including a full tear off first. It was a good learning experience, but I won't be doing that again hahaha.

WH, yes hand-feds are quiet and mechanically reliable relative to pellet and coal stoker stoves. As I understand it, the OP's original complaint was about the inadequate heat output of the pellet stove - not its noise or reliability - and he requested noise and reliability info for a coal stoker relative to a pellet stove, because that is the basis for comparison that he has, and he presumably doesn't want those aspects to get significantly "worse". I didn't see where that info had been provided in this thread, so I asked.

McGiever......does anyone make a hand feed coal stove with a fresh air intake for combustion air. My home is very tight and i do see this as a issue if the appliance relies on inside air for combustion.
Thanks
