What are some opinions of a koker 160. I have one available that is in really good condition. I have a Leisure Line now that just cant keep up on really cold days.

It is a workhorse. It will put quite a bit of heat into the area that it is installed, so if the intent is to move the maximum amount of heat via ductwork, it may not be the best choice.

What do you intend to heat with it?

I have one in my modular home hooked into the ductwork & have no problem heating around 1400 S/F plus basement. It's well insulated & I normally use about 2 ton per winter, naturally depending on the weather sometimes more others less.

We've been heating our 1800+ sq ft ranch house with our Koker for about 10 winters now. It has no problem keeping the house at 70-72 degs regardless what the weather has been. When I reinstalled it, I spent a lot of time going through all the ductwork, sealing the joints well and insulating it where I could. It really improved the efficiency over the original installation. We're very glad that we decided to go with the Koker.

Are you saying it is for a large area?

I recall the 160 name is the BTU output in 1,000s. Flat out it's output should be close to 160,000 BTUs per hour. It is a hybrid stove/furnace. Radiant heat will saturate the area it's installed in and, when ducted properly, it's designed to move heated air through the duct system. The 'furnace' part of the heat works best when return air is ducted to the blower fan.

The 'large area' question ... well it depends. It will idle waaaay down to ~5-6000 btus per hour and will run full out with 160k/hr. The house thermostat controls this in conjunction with the idle timer. How it performs depends on your set up and where the radiant heat goes.

Ok now what are the weak points. I have an EFM 700 that is a bulletproof beast. I got the leisure line that is real simple. I would love to have another EFM but it is just wont work in this situation.

Maybe a more detailed description of your situation would help Phil!

Phil May, is your LL a 110 single burner or a 220 dually? The Koker 160 is about smack in the middle of the LL furnaces.

I am not sure it only has 1 feeder that is 5.5" wide and the flue pipe come out the top. The tag on it does not have a model only a serial #. It is a good unit just a little small. I am trying to heat a 26'x36' ranch on superior wall foundation with R-19 in walls and new windows. The ceiling is R-30 currently. I plan on adding to ceiling to R-50.

I put a new Baro dampner in and what a difference. I am pretty sure it is a pioneer from comparing pics.

A friend heats his 2 story circa 1930's house with a Pioneer easily. Glad to hear you've got it under control with the new baro.

Phil, focus on the air leaks first. Usually there is a much faster return on air sealing than extra insulation.

I am trying to heat 2016 sqft This is basement and 1 floor. It has been using 2 5gal buckets a day. Just seems like a lot of coal for the size and how well insulated it is.
