I've searched but can't find a recommended draft setting for a Alaska 140 single feed. Does anyone know or have a reference?

Scott, my Alaska 140 is a dual feed with the draft set at -.04
Its been set at .04 for years even when the second burner was needed.

Thanks Paulie! Is that number from a Alaska manual?

That was the number given to me by a Alaska rep when I was setting up the 140.
I purchased it used and didn't get the manual. I called a local dealer and they gave me the settings.
I think I found a manual online and downloaded it a few years back , but I haven't found it yet.

Thanks again Paulie. It’s interesting you say that because as measured with my draft gauge he has exactly .04 draft. But, his Baro was not ever setup correctly. It’s set at .08 and never opens. (Which makes sense) The chimney is real hot and I got to thinking it’s set wrong and needs to be set lower so it can open and send less heat up the chimney. So today I drilled a hole, measured with my gauge and it’s at .04. Trouble is the Baro is closed and set at .08 when I adjusted the weight to the .04 position on the slot, it stayed closed. So I went further down to the .02 section of the slot and it still remained closed.
The furnace runs great according to him but he burns 4-5 tons per winter in a 1700 sq ft house which I assumed is excessive.

That does seem excessive, but then again, as you know the type home, windows, insulation, and location are all factors that have a bearing on actual fuel consumption.
Here in NE Pa. our 4,000 sf house, built in 1973, and sitting on the top of the hill burns an average of 6 ton a year. And it's rare for the inside temp to be under 74*f
Try setting the baro by connecting your manometer and sliding the weight over until it opens and reduces the draft. Then slowly move it back until it bounces back and forth at -.04 .

I took the weight off and it would not open on its own, yet the butterfly moves freely if pushed with your finger! My Bacharach draft gauge reads .04 with it closed. I’m stumped.
The stove runs fine and has been fine I’m just confused about the Baro and the chimney...it’s high and I believe it should draft better than .04..

Yes it’s an RC. The weight is on the outside of the door. It’s installed on a vertical pipe with the weight on the correct “V” slot.

Okay, there is also a counterweight on the backside of the door. So, taking the weight off the front side would make it nearly impossible for it to open on its own because the counterweight on the backside will hold it shut. Move the weight out away from the door, as far as possible.
All the way out to the tip of the slide.

Wow lol that's a bit of a bewilderment. Hmmm. Excessive fly ash on the backside of the baro door?
With the weight all the way out to the tip of the slide you should be able to breath on it and cause it to open. Did you happen to try the weight on the other side of the slide?

Ran across this on another Alaska thread today. The op added washers to bring the baro into the range he was shooting for.
