Hi everyone.
I recently purchased a Juniata coal stoker by Reading. I bought the unit used (3 years old) from Craigslist. The seller had it vented up a chimney. I want to power vent it, so I will need to buy the power vent unit and a barometric dampener. I'm also planning on installing a heat reclaimer.

From the research that I've been doing, there is more to these stoves than simply hooking them up and lighting a fire. I am familiar with wood stoves, but this will be my first coal stove. I'm going to be installing the unit in my basement and hooking into my duct work. My home is approximately 1600 sq ft.

I'm looking for some guidance on dialing in the stove. I realize that every application is unique and it depends on many factors, but if anyone could provide some baseline guidance on how to get everything calibrated I would greatly appreciate it. What should I set the feed rate to on the back of the unit? What speed should the power vent fan be set to? What reading should I be looking for on the manometer for the dampener? I want to be sure that the unit is running at optimal efficiency.

Thanks in advance for any tips that anyone can give me.

He gave me a thermostat that hooks to the back with an ether net style cable.
I also have the factory controller.

With an Ethernet cord could possible be a Coaltrol. But that would get a added separate fan since those Reading stoker use a stock common motor to do the coal feed and combustion fan all at once. Coaltrol likes to do independent control over both of them.

Put up some pictures if you can.

add a combustion air motor and a digital coal trol. remove the fan wheel from the stoker motor, then get a 50 cfm bathroom fan with the outlet up against the bottom of the stoker unit. the fan is about 16 bucks.
this is a proven mod for the triburner style stokers with the common feed/air motor.
someone from this forum helped me out with this mod on my stove about ten years ago, last i heard he was one of the owners of leisure line. search old posts by user matthaus lots of good info.

Yes. It has a coaltrol thermostat.
And, yes, there is a fan for combustion and a separate blower motor for hot air.
