Good evening all,

My brother in law just picked up an older LL Econo with a powervent. My questions are does he need to have a barometric damper with the powervent and can we run the stove pipe right out the back of stove into powervent.

Any suggestions on powervent install? This stove was bought used with no paperwork. I have no idea how to hook up powervent. Would like to just run rear vent on stove to powervent with horizontal piece of stove pipe.

Thanks everyone

Tim

I would recommend the baro. A powervent is a consistent draw that is adjusted with a rheostat or similar device if yours came with one. With that being said, changes in operating temp of the stove or wind gust across the face of the powervent will affect the draft. The baro helps control this in my opinion. I've found with the powervent that a mano is crucial to set the correct draft for your stove. In my particular situation my powervent draws very little.

As far as install, what you are suggesting should be fine. Powervent goes thru the wall and then just pipe the stove into it.

First things first...Carbon Monoxide detectors to protect loved ones and pets.

Don't forget to install and wire-in the separate 'fume switch' to stop/shut-down the pv if it were blocked, failed or of reduced capacity.

You will need a draft gauge or manometer to set the baro damper properly. If you don't use one, you could be wasting a lot of heat to the outside or have operational problems with the stove. Draft is the critical component to safe and efficient operation.

This is a big one! Look on the inside where the fume switch comes into the stove body. Make sure it isn't plugged up with gunk. I've had this issue before and didn't know it.

Thank you all for your help. Stove wasn't installed today as we noticed the grate wasn't sealed. Hope to have it up and running by the weekend.

Good evening all,

With a cold snap coming this weekend and my brother in law hating paying for pro-pain to heat his 1500 Sq ft house, I finally finished his Econo install and fired it up tonight. In 1 hour living room went from 66 to 71. Very impressed with this little stove. I didn't get any pics as it was late when I left. Converted another to coal.

If you do not use a Baro that is properly adjusted when running a PV you could end up with a hopper fire as well. The other hint for the econo when lighting plug the hopper fan in direct for the first hr so it runs full speed till the stove levels out.

Hello all,

We installed a barometric damper and got it set to where draft is -.04. Stove has been running good. Brother in law and his family are very happy coal burners.
