Hello, have a quick question on the channing III. When the heat blows out it feels as if one side blows hot air and the other side blows cooler air. Is this possible or just the way they run? Thanks

I have the stove and never experienced that. Do you have a duct ring installed on the top? When you have the duct ring alaska gives you a piece of band steel to put under the top to help regulate air flow out the front or up thru the ring, I guess that could possible cause this if that is installed under there.

I do not have the duct ring installed. Yes very odd. Left half of stove feels warm while the right side is quite a bit cooler.

And how about that piece of band steel under the top, you need this to deflect air up thru the ring/duct

I'm not sure what you mean by the band steel. If I take the top of there is a piece of metal welded on

Its a flat piece of steel 3/4" wide x 1" wider then the stove, its bowed and friction fit under the top, if you slide back closer to where the duct ring is cut in more air goes up the duct, if you slide it closer to the stove front more air comes out the front of the stove,

I think without it there to deflect air up the duct your getting a cold spot on the stove, the band is simply bent and set in there to block some of thee air from going out the front of the stove, you could get it at a hardware store

Thanks for the picture. I'm just a little confused. I do not have a duct that the air is blowing to. All the air is blowing out the front. Here is a picture of the top of my stove.

I'm sorry I thought you did, forget all that then, it isn't very cold out yet would it be possible that you have not run the stove really hot yet?

Did you ever have a full grate of fire except the last inch or so? If you have the hole top of stove should be hot evenly

Thanks so much. Sorry about that. No, I only have it set on about 2-2/14 now. Never had a full grate. That possibly could be it. Sorry about this, I am new to these stoves. Thanks

That about right on 2, on 5 the grate should be full of fire except about 1 " from the end of grate and the heat should even out.
