The Logwood Boiler
Does anybody have a marathon logwood boiler (wood/coal)? I currently have one (like it) and have been using it for one heating season. The model I have is the ycob36. This unit can be converted to a gravity feed unit in case of a power outage. The unit can burn 220lbs of coal. I am getting ready to heat my water with a domestic coil. I have hotwater baseboard heat. I am currently adding in floor radiant heat also. I am currently burning freeport bitominous coal. I will be getting some anthracite coal next season.

i have a YCOB 24...i have burned anthracite for two seasons now in upstate NY. It is sufficient enough for my 1500 sq.ft. home. I have radiant heat, also...in both the basement and first floor...No complaints so far...just wish I could find some cheaper coal in these neck of the woods...
I have an old Logwood add-on AOB24. It has served me well for over 25 years. All that time I have burned wood in it but this year I would like to convert to Anthracite. Does anyone know if I need coal grates for that or if so where I might find some? Does anyone have experience burning coal in the AOB-24?

You will need coal grates to burn anthracite, do not attempt it without them.
