Wood Pellets

So when they ban coal or they drive the coal companies out of bussiness can I burn wood pellets in my new Ka6 keystoker? looks like that is where it is headed.

The way things are going at the EPA level, coal will still be around for residential home heating when wood burning is banned. Coal is unregulated for home heating use. Wood is becoming more regulated by the day.

okay but if they all go out of business where are we going to get it from? and what about taxes? coal isn't taxed for home heating they are still trying to tax carbon. cap and trade

We'll have to cross that bridge when we come to it. I wouldn't worry too much.

I just checked my Tractor Supply Corporation receipt's, I was wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so used to paying the sin tax I do not think about it anymore
especially since I cannot deduct it anymore as an American Citizen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you burn pellets Gary your going to burn twice as much if not more don't forget that.

It took a while to finally convince spousal showing her the cost per ton that the coal boiler
was the way to go with our heating needs.

My figures have it at very close to 1.6 lbs. of kiln dried wood pellets (at 8% moisture) to 1 lb. of anthracite (at 5% moisture).

Allowing for moisture, typical mixed hardwoods are probably on the order of 2.3 lbs. to 1 lb. of anthracite (though there is much room for variability here).

Besides the differences in BTU content, I wonder if the fire wouldn't burn back into the hopper trying to burn wood pellets in a boiler designed for coal.

I wouldn't want to try it. Might work better in an underfed stoker?

Stockpile what you can now. Little by little add more to it as much as you can, it's "money in the bank". And when it gets to the point that they come and take your stockpile, it will be way past the time to have beeen digging into your lead stockpile...

That is exactly what it will do. Coal needs a large amount of moving air. Wood does not need as much.
