I have a 1940-50's Estate heatrola intensifire air-duct coal stove. Tag says model "A 642" Ser. 157 064. I'm looking for a diagram or manual to try to get this old gal back in shape. Can't find much online about them. What I do find is impressive. Seems to be a good stove. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

Rob, they made a ton of stoves with many different variations. I had one that had a brown cabinet and circulating tubes over the firepot. There was nothing really special about the operation compared to any other coal stove. If you need some general guidance about what to check and how to run it, post a few pictures of the stove. Here are some pictures of mine, and an old advertisement.

Thanks for the info Rob. I'm used to running wood stoves. Heated the house the last 3 years with a furnace and stove. This heat works has been in my garage since I bought my house. I purchased an old farm house to fix up and I thought it would be a cheap source of heat on and off this winter as we don't live there. There are no gaskets on the doors and it needs the glass in the door.

Mine did not have gaskets either, just machined surfaces that closed "fairly" tight. The stove will need a pipe damper to operate properly.

Mine made a lot of heat and would easily go 12 hours on a pail of nut coal. I had it in the basement of a large farmhouse.

If you aren't interested in asthetics you could probably fabricate a piece of sheet metal to cover that opening in the door.

I also have a bracket that holds the top inside swinging door that keeps the smoke in is cracked. You guys know of anyone who still can get parts for these things? It says " 25 estate heatrola part No. 1630". I'm sure I could fab something up but it would be nice to have the right piece.

You might be able to find a grate for it, but I think that would be about it. That smoke flap is not critical if you are burning anthracite & have decent draft.

Thank you guys for the help. I found the broken ear for the smoke door behind the ash pan. I used some high nickel cast rods and welded back together. Made my first coal fire Saturday morning and it's still going.

Used about 50lbs over 24hrs. That seems pretty good to me for a 1850's farm house with brick insulation.
