X2 on the older harmans, my older dealer (carried them form the first in the area ) is getting pushed out by one of the new dealer because they a "full line dealer " the full line dealer does not have a clue on parts or service of the units, plus Harman is getting rid of a lot of the coal models just waiting till I can no longer get parts for my stove ....

My Harman is handfired, and 5 years old, so I have no complaints there. Just installed my stoker boiler built by Jim D. and I'd never go back to a handfired. The automation is a NICE and welcome change.

Had it not been for Jim, I'd have bought a Leisure Line - hands down - wouldn't have looked at anything else. 8-)

In your case,Smits,Thank God For Jim D. !!.....And again,Spur, take your time tuning that Puppy. Record your changes and give time for them to show themselves. Stoking takes time to show results. You're 'gonna do just fine !

Why carry a huge line of Coal Stoves when most use Pellet etc. Here in NH I don't know anyone who burns Coal except for my Coal Dealer. Everybody up here uses Harman's Pellet stove or hand fired wood.
Harman is smart if they dropped a model that does't sell well. I do the same here at my business. Dealers are dealers.. You guys really think all LL or other brand dealers will have all the parts, knowledge or service? I don't think so. I couldn't even find a LL dealer. They wanted me to drive 7 hours to see one. Then I saw the way the forced hot air worked on it and I dropped the idea of buying one. Many many Harman dealers here in NH. My Blazcek dealer pushed me over the fence on how he and 5 or 6 other customers had Super Mag's and had no issues. Thank god I didn't listen to the Chicken Littles here and Thank god for my Coal dealer.
Also I saw and looked good at the older Harman Stokers and didn't like the build and functions. This Super Mag is simple and built solid works better in every way for my needs.
When company's make change everyone always say they don't make them like they use to. Then there are those who cling on to old technology. Thank god they keep progress going and we don't stay in the past.

the problem is not the pellet stoves my dealer sells a ton of harmans in that way, to be a full dealer you have to sell the ng/lpg stove they market also......

and there not dropping a model or 2 seen the list and its most of the coal fire one's and as for using pellets most buyers are not given a choice on that, and why would you being a dealer, when you can sell them the stove and there fuel, and as for the older Harman's where did you not like the build on them built a little to sturdy for you???

burning a mid 80's vanwert stoker here for my house and will still be burning it for the next 30 years

Well, for one thing, you're in NH and the OP is in Carbon County PA.

So his access to anth is probably better than yours. Making coal stoves a viable mfg item.

Just saying.....

Mister, those are the same guys that answered your call for help, hints and tips going back to 2008 when you were thinking of buying a Harman MK 3 and they helped loft you up when very recently you needed a hand getting your Harman Super Mag Stoker off the ground. Try to have a little bit of decency for those that helped you, personally. Jim,just to help this Topic stay on Topic, that being helping the Turkey Guy out,I'll start a new thread. It will be titled "Hard-On For The New Harman Co. ?" I'm sure we can all gather there and trade insults, whine, smarm and just generally bash the living daylights out of Harman in the here and now. You can be their Counsel For The Defense.......We've all thrown in to make this Forum a Great place to be....Footnote,I haven't seen any of your Off-Shore Harman Friends here to shore up their product or position or help any non-Harman Coal Burners on this Forum. I have seen the Fine Folks from Leisure Line here continually. And yes, they've constantly helped Folks just like you, even though there wasn't a dime in it for them. Yes Jim,they're that good. Their stoves 'aint too shabby, either. :o

Well said HB. Like I have said before if I ever buy a stoker it'll be a Leisure Line. I used to be a big Harman fan but, not any more. If I were to purchase another hand fired stove it will be a base burner.

What a fool! Or what a newbie.....I have a Harman, spelled with an "a" and I can tell you in no uncertain terms that should I ever need to purchase a coal burning device again, it will be LL. ;) Sounds like someone got into some bad mushrooms up in NH, along with his dealer. Pellets! What a joke! If you have a Harman that works, and a dealer that knows something, good for you! For all the rest everywhere else, buy a LL!!!

Kevin

Could not find a dealer????? There is one in Machias, ME and that is one hell of a lot further from coal country then NH.

To be on topic, congrats to the OP and enjoy a well running, well made Harman. They are fine until they break unless you are an engineer or really, really handy. But man, you paid almost as much as I paid for the VF3000 boiler!

Hi CaptCaper. Since we were dragged into this topic (Leisure Line) I have to say. I am glad to hear you are happy with your stove. I know a lot of people at Harman including Dane. They have been very welcoming to us newcomers and I may jest or poke them about their products its all in jest. But just curious about the part how the forced air works? Can you elaborate more, if we are missing someplace that we can improve please share with me. Either PM or on the forum makes no difference. I do not take things personally as far as if someone buys a Harman or reading or alaska. We are in the same industry and every consumer has their needs and tastes. Our stove does not appeal to everyone shopping and vice versa. You picked a great stove and are saving money burning Pennsylvania Anthracite. No fault there.

PS ours are better. :poke: Just kidding. Stay warm. :)

Glad to hear you got up and running. Even we make mistakes at LL. I know hard to believe but it happens. We once had a motor get out with no wire nut inside the junction box. Not sure how it happened it ran fine for a few days one the wire found ground. All went quiet. No matter how hard we try its hard to catch everything. You bought a good stove now be warm and happy.

I've had LL, Hitzer, Keystoker, etc. all go bad right at start-up. Things happen. These guys are not building the motors, etc.

Do you guys realize that coal doesn't even register as 1 % of the hearth industry? The more people burning coal the better whether it be a Harman or not. If people drop off from burning coal then the delivery, supply, manufacturing, etc. will go away. Why do you think Van Wert and Yellowflame went out of business? Or why the EFM furnace wasn't made for 16 years? Because coal died off in the late 80's early 90's.

Let's support the industry. Bashing certain brands won't help anything.
