First things first, what is your liner made of and what size is it?
I found the paperwork. What I have now is a Winterwarm large insert by Vermont Castings. It requires an eight inch oval flue collar, so I guess that's what I have. The paperwork says that I have a 13" x 13" flue, and it says I have 21 feet of stainless liner installed eight years ago.

Does anyone know how high off the ground the back vent is for the Hyfire? I can't seem to find that information. I just want to make sure that I don't lug it home and not be able to vent it into the fireplace opening.

Thanks.
Nice... now lets be perfectly clear how much a piece 0 crap VC is :dancing: (inside joke to my roll top desk...I mean ashpan friends)

The Hyfire2 flu exit im sure is below your 44" fireplace opening height, but your hearth is so tall and narrow that you could always make a lower hearth in front of the existing hearth if needed (your going to need more depth to it anyways!)... best to wait for Dave to measure the height to the top of the rear exit flu (then he needs to add these measurements to his site because I cant find them either  ) LOL

The person selling it said the rear flue is 5 inches from the floor. I assume that means the center-line is eight inches from the floor. Does that sound right?

I am planning to pick it up tomorrow morning.

The flue outlet is about 2" or 3" above the floor at the bottom of the ring. You do need a barometric damper as well the best is the Field Controls 6"RC since it comes with a calibrated scale. I have seen some Pocono's installed in front of a hearth. I know there are a few Hyfires installed this way. That should keep you warm. :)

Thanks. I thought of it, but getting the coal down to the basement and the bringing up the ash and clinkers would be too difficult in my house. Plus the stove seems a less expensive option.
BINGO, and that is my problem too, getting the coal in is easy but getting the ashes out is very hard for an old man and daily tending makes it a non starter. So I bought a kissing cousin of the Hyfire the AnthraKing and I have a large 7000' very segmented home in Chester NY (down Rt 17 a bit, my son lives at Rock Hill). I put in the stove and fully expected that it would only offset the HO costs some and even that would be worth it. I now have another stove (an antique) and worked at air distribution (without ugly ducting) and the bottom line is that this is my fourth winter of burning no HO (whooopee). LOVE THAT COAL. You seem to have an unusual situation and yes Monticello does get bitchin' cold in the winter but you are on the right road and this board will help you out.

Hi all,

Looks like the seller flaked out on me. Sent me an email at 1AM that I should call to confirm when I left since he might need to cancel. Now doesn't return calls, texts or emails, so it would be silly of me to make the trip.

If it is not against the rules of this board, does anyone know where to buy a used hyfire II or suggest an alternate? I'm trying to get this done before the seasonal rush.

Thanks for all the help. Sorry it might have been for nothing.

Thanks.

DC says: :wtf: What a Flippin Azz :mad3: I hate fakes!
How much was he asking BTW??? Maybe he woke up and smelled the coffee and realized he was selling a VERY expensive, highly sought after stove.... Next you will see it posted for $2k firm :mad3:

Sorry about that stove but don't worry about posting here (its never for nothing because the info in these threads remains for all those in the future who have similar thoughts, questions and discussions).
You will find plenty of alternatives and great values/deals (try to key in on whats important to YOU... do you want a stoker for sure? a hand fed coal stove would allow for easy installation in your set up as well as very inexpensive up front cost and never need to worry about power usage or power outage). Maybe search some threads, read a lil bit and make some decisions on what route you wish to try Post by dcrane - Hand Fired or Stoker Stove Which? (then we can help you and make some suggestions toward that end ;) )

Thanks.

What I would like is something like a Pocono rear vent. 110K BTU and two hundred pound capacity bin so that it can burn a couple of days without tending.

Due to money issues, I would need to purchase a used one. The Hyfire would have been nice with its extra heat capacity, but a Pocono would surely do the job.

I received a lot of information from this thread. The people here led me to do research so that I think I have a starting point. When I get something, I will definitely return for help getting started.

He'll probably sell it to somebody else. I am now concerned that it might not have been his to sell. It was really hard getting information from him. I am looking elsewhere.

Thanks again to all.
