The junkman has struck again :D . Picked up this console from Matt on new years day . This thing was seriously overfired and abused . Overall the stove it self is in great shape but the grate is in two pieces the carpet has about 2-3 inches melted off . The hopper has had its shares of fires ,kinda scary .If you look closely the grate is in 2 pieces . But leave it to Matt to find these deals and be nice enough to share his obsession (or disease ) With us . Thanks Matt only another 40 hr project to look foward to :D . I will be using it to replace my propane fireplace insert . Anyone interested in a nice propane fireplace to replace your coal stove :P . Dave

This may be a dumb question, but how can you overfire a stoker stove?
I have a stoker and I do not want to harm it.

Welcome to the club, Flyer.
I could use my Alaska tonight. 14 here and dropping. The cellar is in the low 50's.
You might as well forget selling that propane rig here. I tried with one, even pleading that I need money to feed my coal addiction. I'll put it on eBay after I remove it. Like a car salesman once told me: "There's an ass for every seat".

By continuously running the fire off the end of the grate which will overheat the grate, plenum, and hopper. This stove was trying to heat too large an area. The guy I got it from traded it to me as part of a Harman Magnum purchase deal (he needed the 85,000 btus of the Harman). This stove only has 48,000 btus and he was trying to heat the whole house.

Bottom line, operate your stove as per manufacturers directions, and perform the prescribed maintenance faithfully. If you do that this will never be your stove. :)

Wassa matter Dave, ya don't like the new Alaska two piece grate system!? The special corrugated hopper design not to your liking? The split feeder carpet with turned up edge was not what you wanted? :P

Oh well I never met a stove I couldn't palm off on some unsuspecting coal Forum member.   Thank you for rescuing another one, there is only so much one guy can do after all! :)

I am just giving Matthaus a hard time . The stove is in really great shape except for a few items mentioned . He did also give me a great deal on it ( I think :) ) . The wife was proud when I mentioned we were going to look at yet another coal appliance . But she has seen how much better coal has been in the last month by using the boiler . Dave

You are very welcome Dave, both you guys are subjects for my new program to brain wash the forum membership into saving older stoves from extinction!  After all what is the fun in being a junk collector if you can't share with your friends.

Now repeat after me, "I know this stove looks like junk now, but think how much money we will save honey!" toothy :nana:
