I'm having trouble getting access to the screws that hold together the stove pipe and the venter pipe as it enters the wall. I took them apart to clean the venter pipe thinking that I would be able to remove it completely from inside the wall, but it seems there is a metal ring holding the pipe in place. As a result, I can't put the stove pipe and the venter pipe back together. Can anyone give me a few tips?

If you used self tapping screws and ran them through both sections of pipe, that may be the problem. The drill portion and then the screw section stretch the metal and create burrs that interfere with the pipes smoothly sliding back together.

A remedy for this may be the use of a pair of pliers to reform the pipe od a hammer and block of wood could be used. Hold the block of wood on the opposite side of the pipe and hammer the other side to flatten it out.

Hello Sting,

I'm really interested in this method. Could this be done with the fire still burning in the stoker as long as I'm really fast. I would have 2 other people helping me.

I would do it like this.

1.) I'll have the power venter cover off.

2.) I'll tell the person right inside to turn the power venter off or I would think better yet turn it off & unplug it.

3.) I'll have the 3rd person standing by with the leaf blower with it running ready to go.

4.) I quickly but carefully take the motor out of the power venter's piping and then start the suction while the 3rd person goes into the basement and closed off the barometric damper. (maybe even have it covered with foil.)

So does this sound relatively safe if it's done no more than 5 to 10 minutes?

Thank you.

Personally I wait until the season is over, then pull everything apart and do the cleaning and packing it away for the summer.

During the burn season I just open the ash door and take my shop-vac with a 2ft extension and suck-up the fly ash inside right up to the squirrel cage. Clean as a whistle.

Why would that happen....last I checked there are no such things burning in my pipes, ever. So that would never be an issue, especially since you can see straight through and visually verify any such non-anomaly before. It's just fly ash fer-chrisakes.
