We started our Pocono in October this year and with the warmer weather forcasted for this weekend would it be a good idea to shut it down for a good cleaning

Yes it would.

Good idea, just did ours last weekend. Cleaned everything, oiled the motors and back to work. Made the stove very happy. (Don't ask).

I was thinking it would be a good weekend for a mid-season cleaning.

Yes I did ours 2 weeks ago.I have found after approximately every ton cleaning is better.

Yes I agree, A cleaning is due... Good time for it while its 50 outside this Saturday. Seems my draft isn't quite as aggressive as it used to be, I bet I have some fly ash sitting in the chimney where it goes vertical. I'll run the shop vac hose in from outside ..... to keep dust down to a minimum..

I just shut my stove down last Sunday. I cleaned it out, installed some new parts and replaced a few others. I didn't vacuum the stove out but did "dust" it a little before relighting it.

Other than the flue pipe what the hell are you guys cleaning?

I vacuumed mine out yesterday as the draft was going down and I did have quite alot of fly ash build up . The draft is right up to par now . My 110 has a clean out at the top of the boiler and some fly ash does build up there on top of the vertical tubes , it takes just a couple of minutes to do it, no shut down required for that cleaning .

Last season the inside of my stove was caked with ash that wouldn't clear the grates. In fact this past Sunday when I shut down the main reason for the shutdown other than replacing the draft inducer was because the rear grate was completely out. There was so much ash on it that no amount of poking and proding cleared it.

I wanna shut it down, clear caked ashes (I have the V shaped firebox) on the fire brick and any clinkers out..
Vac the flue pipe, brush the inside of the firebox. Start fresh with a new fire.
My current fire is about 11 weeks old.
Also considering some mods in the grates.
Drill and tap set screws to alleviate the slop between the in-line grates.

Geez Richard, took a drink as I read your post, almost spit it all over the keyboard. I could just picture you sitting there looking at your screen, going "these guys really are nuts". Thanks for the laugh, Gotta get back to cleaning the stove.

The top of my Pocono comes off I found out by mistake and there are 2 metal tubes shaped in a v to the top and they had Fly Ash in them, so I think I will do that again.
Can someone tell me where I should oil the motors. Wife wants to know, she will be doing most of it. Thanks again Jeff

On either side of the motor near the shaft look to see if there is a little hole about 1/8 in diameter usually with a little rubber cap on it. Just need a few drops once or twice a year. Don't over oil.
