During sandy we lost power for 14 hours. We heated the house with the propane kitchen stove. It kept it at 62. My wife said she was cold all the time. When the power came back on yesterday I restarted the old Leisure Line Econo 1 rice burning stoker. It was already set to hold the house at 72 which it had been doing before sandy and the power outage. During that 14 hours the house had cooled down and I told her it was going to take a while for the house to get back up to temperature. She kept complaining she was cold today and wanted the stove cranked up. I cranked it up. She came by 30 minutes later telling me it was still cold to crank the stove again. I told her it takes time for it to catch up. She said I don't care crank it. So I cranked it again.

We went to have lunch with the son, daughter in law and grand daughter. Four hours later outside its 38 F when we get back and the living room is 86, the kitchen which is always cool is 78 and the upstairs bedroom is at 80. Being the loving, caring, concerned husband of 40 years that I am, I asked her if I still need to crank it again. She said no and now I can turn it down. I just backed it off and we should settle in at the normal 72 by this time tomorrow. I had to make the comment and ask "Are you sure I don't need to crank it again...."

Sometimes you just gotta do it you know?

You might just want to keep the temp up just a bit.

You keep asking her that question and it just may be a little cold in the bedroom tonight.....

Oh no,there goes the butter again

I heard the same thing today..."it's cold in here". I hadn't fired up yet this year since it has been fairly mild here just south of the mason - dixon line, so I made that my afternoon project.

After checking the condition of last years flue pipe, I treated myself to some new flue pipe and new self tapping hex heads at lunch. Still had the Rutland seam cement from last year. Cut and pieced together the flue pipe this afternoon, sealed it up, set th egrates and sealed the edges and center seam. I was out of cowboy charcoal so I made a quick trip to Lowes, giving the cement a little time to set up and got a torn bag for 1/2 price!

Got everything together and fired up about an hour ago. Stove temp is now 500*, flue temp is 225*, manometer reads .04, baro has been leveled, plumbed and screwed in place and gently flaps once in a while.

Saving $$$ has begun for the season....life is good!!!

Glad to hear it. It is a good feeling to get the coal burner fired up for the season. I normally am firing about this time but with the cool weather we've been having, I fired it up about 3 weeks ago.

Tell your wife she needs a little STRESS in her life, it will put her blood pressure up and then she won't be so cold!!!!!!!!!

22* this morning and about a half inch of white stuff on the ground, stove was ready to go in the basement for a redo on the hot air plennumnmnmn on the furnace and the wife say's 'honey, why don't we keep the stove in the livingroom", been planning this and even had the neighbor come by with the refir. dolly, just built new steps to the basement in preparation of the move, and wham it's cold, " honey,I changed my mind," at this point I've already left the room and she is still talking to me , anybody know what I mean?

Thanks fred, and Dennis, I'm treading lightly, just got a new plow for the 4 wheeler and about to hit her with the new winch

At least she changed her mind before you had it halfway up the steps!!!
