Well I sold my pellet stove finally and have done alot of research and have decided to get the Pioneer top vent. It was between that or a keystoker sw90.. Hopefully I have made the right choice. I'm trying to heat 1400sq'...I assume the Pioneer will put out sufficient heat to cover my needs. My wood stove put out 60,000 to 90,000 BTU's which I sold for the pellet and now will be replacing with the LL. I will be ordering from Jerry also since he ships.

Great choice, I have the same stove & it exceeded my expectations. One mistake I made was tweaking the coal-trol settings prematurely. If I can give you one tip, run the stove for a few days with the default settings & then adjust as necessary. I learned that compared to other heating sources a coal stove is slower coming up to temperature & slower going down. It’s like the difference between slow roasting & microwave cooking, I prefer the slow roast. :) Good luck.

I will do that.. The coal-trol looks a little intimidating I was looking at the user manual last night but I guess I'll get used to it.. Thanks

The coal-trol can be mostly plug and play.
The only setting you will have to adjust right away (besides the day and night temp) is the Min.
My coal-trol came set at Min=4. I found that Min=5 would keep the stove lit when the FR would go to zero, but now that the cold weather is here, I raised my Min to 11.

A DVD should have come with the stove.

Sounds good . I haven't got the stove yet . I just ordered it from Karen today and she had mentioned a instructional dvd...I assume your talking about the feed-rate. Karen had mentioned to set the barometric damper to 4?. I'm hoping all that is explained in the DVD... Thanks for the replys

I keep my Hyfire Coaltrol Setting on 5 min and 47 max, it seems to work the best.
There are sample setting in the book, I think the normal for the LL stoves is 6 min and 40 max to start with.

Here a good thread on the Baro Damper...she meant 0.04 setting, see pics in the thread for settings..
Install a Barometric Damper on a Stoker Stove/Furnace?

Just wondering.

How much coal do these things burn per hour/day, overall? Max?

Also, how much do they cost?

How much does the pioneer cost and how much does the "econo 1" cost"??

Thanks

Alan

I have burned anywhere from 12# to 85# a day. My average per day is 39# for the entire heating season (Oct-May). And I am heating 2000sqft. keeping the T-stat set at 73 degrees.
