Scrape out the old rope gasket, buy matching size gasket material. Glue in new rope gasket.

You can use the thin, watery, difficult to use gasket cement sold where you buy the rope gasket.

Or go to an auto supply store, and buy Permatex 'Ultra Black' RTV gasket sealer.. this wonderful stuff will do the job with much less mess
and fewer cuss words.

Do NOT stretch the rope to fit. Install the rope gasket with no stretching or tension on the material.

Use a piece of plastic, like a loaf of bread bag, or a garbage bag or the plastic grocery bags.. slip the bag over the door, covering all the new rope gasket and gently close the door against the stove, DO NOT close it tight, just close it enough to hold the rope in place. or you can tape the plastic to the stove front, then close the door against the stove..

The plastic will keep you from gluing the door shut from excess glue. or gluing the rope gasket to the stove instead of the door.

If the gasket is for a hot water coil, make sure you go around and re tighten it periodically after re firing. Repeat the process for several weeks, at least 4-5 times. ;)

Would the high temp silicone work to glue the gasket in with?

As stated in first reply, stuff you get at the stove store(cement) is forcing me to use bad words.

The only way I've sucessfully used the thin watery stuff is with the door removed from the stove, and laid flat..

Having help, a second set of hands also helps.

Yes, that's how it is used.

Oh ok, the reason I questioned the high temp silicone is because its rated for 450 continuous and up to 500 occasionally. I would hope my door never got that hot though

The gasket is an insulator. So the stove may be at 500, but the rope gasket won't transfer all that heat to the door, or the glue holding the rope to the door.

And that ~450* temperature does not mean that the stuff just disappears, turns liquid or burns.. it just starts to deteriorate compared to the lower temperatures..

Try it, you'll like it !!
