greenftechn wrote:The Harman DVC 500 is a good candidate for this. "DVC" in this case stands for Direct Vent Coal. They were discontinued by HHT, but there is some consideration being given to bringing them back as a Legacy Stoves product line. While our dealers are key to us measuring demand, and finalizing a decision, input from the forum would be considered as well.
"If you build it, they will come."

One thing Legacy Stoves has that HHT didn't have is this forum's endorsment. 8-)
Now just don't let the Dealers to go and screw that up.

The drawback on the old Harman stoves was the electronics. There are places for electronic complications but a coal stove is not one of them. The Harman's had funky electronics, expensive to repair, expensive to replace, and when something went wrong it was a brain reducer to figure it out.

Drop as much electronics as you can and make life a little simpler.

Liability lawyers like electronics in a coal stove to keep the stoves idiot proof and therefore prevent loss of life and property.. :)

Yep I know that but it is so hard to make idiot proof products because idiots are so ingenious

I eliminated ALL the Johnson electronics from my HarmonVF3000 and it has never hiccuped since. That stuff was annoying junk. Simple Honeywell aquastats and cube relays.

I will confirm that the DVC will return. Someone asked earlier about measuring demand for a discontinued product. Keep in mind that the Legacy side of the biz is dealer's only. Dealers can drive this by committing to buy. :D

Unlike the 3000 you can't redesign the electronics. Early versions had the "feature" that if the thermocouple shorted out it would dump the whole board and that is a $400 item even if you can find it. They did redesign with a fuse but power surges still can kill it (don't ask me how I know). Some people are lucky it's a crap shoot. I keep my maintenance up but every winter I get nervous. It needs a redesign.
