How Much Coal Have You Burned So Far

Right at 4 tons from the latter part of September.The KAA2 flawlessly pushed every bit of it thru that slot and onto the burn bed.I appreciate every pound of it and smiled while carrying out the ashes

KA-6 Boiler. Has been AWESOME this winter. Need to finish cleaning the coal bin out. Bet less than 500 pounds left from 7 ton. I need more to keep the hot water side arm running. Plus the cold weather will not end- was 30 degrees again last night.

Probably get 2 more ton to try to run it this summer. Otherwise the 275 gallon tank of fuel oil is full.

About 4 tons, Alaska 3 heating about 1900 sq feet. Burning from Nov till April 8.

My estimated coal usage was right on track for the year. I brought 2.5 tons of bagged Blaschak and I burned it all. I still have 25 bags of an additional .5 tons I brought mid year but I'll save that for next year. Take care, Lisa

Burned just about all 4 tons, down to my last few bucket.

I started burning coal for my first year around Thanksgiving I have burned about 3 1/2 tons and I am shutting it down today... and I didn't have to buy 600+ gallons of oil!

So far I'm at 4 1/4tons as of 4/10/11, first fire on sept 25(shut down for 4 days in Oct,and 3 days in Nov)It's turning out be a 7+mo heating season .

This from a retired engineer with too much time on his hands.

Total lbs burned : 4,482
Total lbs of ash : 434
% ash : 9.68%

Total burning Days : 144
Average lbs/day : 31.125

Heating Degree Day data
Total HDD : 5313
Lbs/HDD : 0.8436

Notes:
During the 144 days the coal stove was generating 100% of the domestic hot water, slow cooking and baking 18 pounds of beans for freezing.
Out of the 144 days, 9 days had supplemental heating from a basement located wood stove and approximately 5 gallons of fuel oil from the central heating system.

Hi guys, today I shut the coal boiler down,not because I wanted to!! The power company was doing an upgrade of the power and lost power for over 2 hours. All said and done, I calculate about 6 tons of coal for oct 28 to april 13, this includes domestic hot water, and heating. Shut the pipeline in oct and started it today, unfortunately not yet setup to heat domestic water with coal during summer but project in developmental stage and looking interesting!!! Dan

GREAT coal. This is my 17th heating season my old Keystoker, and the first year using coal from Surerior. Guys on here often talk about the quality of coal..to me, this stuff is like black gold. seems to burn much hotter, and the ash is much lighter, meaning definitely a more complete burn. Never thought it would make such a big difference.
Only had to use 100 gals of oil from Dec 2 2010 til present for my domestic hot water.

357.90 = 100 gals oil on 4/14/11
760.00 = 4 ton Superior buckwheat delivered 11/24/2010

Today I've dump 4.825 ton into the AHS hopper and will let it burn out over the next couple of days.
I was planning on letting it run out today but when the wife came back from shopping early this afternoon and pulled into a nice warm garage, the first words out of her mouth were " DON'T SHUT THE COAL OFF TODAY".

Don't ya just love it when a plan comes together.

You know there will be some sad faces when the garage goes back to outside air temps. It isn't summer yet, so keep her going for a few more weeks. Don't forget to save a 5 gallon bucket or two with old ash to restart the the beast again.
Most forget that part, some even leave the ash in the burn pot and ashing grate....please don't......
Clean that piping up also and give it a shot of your favorite oil......WD 40 is quick .....

The 520 is burning a little less than 50 lbs per day in this weather...fine by me.
