Yes, the slider is thermostatically controlled on the ash pan door. It would be some work to add the dedicated outside air supply., which is why I was trying to get a better feel for the results, first. I would probably add the input air "hood" to the lower, side of the stove, and reconfigure the thermostatically controlled damper to that area.

Then you could box in the air intake...
'cause it is in the rear...
