100,000 Tons of Coal

Hello Everyone
Here are a few pics of my last trip up the Delaware River.We delivered 8,000 tons of Bit to Eddystone Power plant just south of Philly.From there we crossed thru the Chesapeake and Delaware canal to Baltimore and loaded 15,000 tons for Montville Ct 7 miles up the Thames river between New London and Norwich Ct.
The coal loaded from the M/V Bauta was imported from South America the coal loaded for Montville was loaded at CSX Curtis Bay Baltimore.I wish I could use at least some of this coal but if I tried I think I would have everyone within a 5mile radius of my house screaming at me to shut it down.
Well everyone says they like pics so here are a few to enjoy.

Was going to post this a while back, here at Tobyhanna Army Depot, they used to burn 17,500 tons a year, here is an article on it. Go to this web page
http://www.tobyhanna.army.mil/about/news/reporter.html and look for the article Volume 52, Number 18 Dated 23 September 2008 pdf file last page. I think it was buckwheat as I was told.

Any idea how they empty the ship?? Big excavators? Big augers? Big Conveyor belts. ?
Must be a lot of work to get the holds clean again.. for hauling wheat and oats on the next trip!

they place a bulldozer in the hold than push it into piles that the buckets can pick up and put on the coveyer.If they need it cleaner for a change of product there are company's that they will hire that specializes in that sorta thing.

This opens new posibilities for coal delivery in my area!!
Can you navigate the Hudson River and take the Champlain Barge Canal ?
The converyor looks like it long enough to reach from the canal to my backyard

Does anyone know why they don't get it from here at home instead of S Aftica? Do we not have the rail capacity or mine output to supply our east cost power plants?
We have a small coal plant nearby in Portsmouth NH on the river, I've seen bulk hauling ships docked there unloading. Actually, it's a tri-fuel plant, coal, oil and wood.
