Hello,
I just bought a Russo Wood/Coal stove a few months ago and have been burning wood just fine. Now I'm trying to use coal but I'm having a little trouble with it. I use the wood to form a nice bed of hot embers then I add some coal which seems to burn nicely when I try to add more coal it doesnt stay lit it dies out. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. When should I add more coal and how much? Should I keep the draft open or close it off? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Denise

I tried starting with a wood fire too, but the wood didn't burn hot enough for the coal to start. I now start with a half-bag of charcoal with some lighter gel. Once that is burning good, I add the coal. Hard to find charcoal at this time of the year, but Home Depot seems to be a good place to get it.
