Hello all! I am here trying to get some answers. I have never owned a coal stove but I am looking for one. I plan on heating my finished basement and hopefully some heat to go up to the next two levels.
I remember one of my best friends having a coal stove as a kid and always was amazed at the heat it would put off so now its time for me to have my own.
I am looking for a used stove and found one local to me. Its a Gibraltar. Its blue with some brass trim. I don't know too much more about it except the dimensions 30"Hx23"Wx16.5"D. Firebox is 18"Wx10"Hx12"D
He wants $600 for it. without any pipe. (pipe is my next big question once I get past if this stove is good)
Would this work for what I am looking to use it for?
THANKS!

I Dont see a banking plate in the front of the stove in the pic. My stove has a banking plate. Somewhere on this forum there is a link to the Gibraltar owners manual. Look it up and make sure all the internals are there. Baffle, banking plate, etc.

The seller had this in one of his emails.
"stove is complete with banking plate, clean out pan, chimney plate, dust shield, and shaker grates."

It is a SCR model Radiant het no blower fan. Should have a heat shield on the back that I don't see . Also the coal banking plate looks missing . weight is 405lbs holds 45 lbs of coal more with the coal banking plate 55 to 60lbs. look at the baffle plate on the inside top for warpage. Also does it have a ash tray shaker handel can't see any in the pic . With out a blower on it I am not sure try will get all the heat upstairs where yo want it . A magic heat reclaimer will help alot with
that stove being there is no blower to blow the heat off the stove into the room . How many sq ft. do you want to try and heat with it .

If you have a two story house and you plan to put it in your basement. I would count on it heating your basement and yes some of the heat will go to the first floor, but you may be asking too much of that stove or any other. If you are looking into heating your whole house. Buy a coal boiler

No stove will heat your entire house, but it will put a big dent in your heating bill! for a multi-level, 3,000' house you'd really need a coal furnace or boiler.

3000 sq ft is alot for that size stove especially a three story house. It will help with some of the heating but not all .
what type of heat do you have Hot water or Hot Air .

I am only looking to heat the basement and have "some" heat go up to help. I work out of my basement and I also spend time down there because it is finished with a tv etc. I am just looking for some help with the heat on the next floors.

It will do that. It may heat your first floor as well. There are alot of variables that will determine how much. Air circulation being a big one.
