Good deal! The old Reading Company was still rebuilding and buying some steam locomotives in the later 1940's. Supposedly because it was tough to get diesel models right after WWII.

Big B,I Swear To God,This Has To Be The Most Gratifying Post You've Ever Pumped In Here! Quite The Amazing Historical Save!! Many British Aviation History Officianados Lament Just How Their Airframes Where Rendered To Scrap,With Little Thought To Historic Preservation. The Royal Navy Crews Have Lamented Similiarly. It's Rewarding To See How British Steam Accidentally Avoided The Same Fate! Thank You! Carry On!!

Been a while since I posted. Anything steam train related is dear to my heart so had to respond. Most don’t know it but brand spanking new real steam locomotives are still being built. Quite a bit smaller than the big guys, they are still honest to goodness real steam locomotives. Last May my new steamer was on the rails for the very first time. It’s a 1/8 scale ‘model’ of an ALCO 4-8-4 built for the Delaware & Hudson Railroad in 1943. She’s 13’ long, weighs 2300 pounds and burns a 70/30 mix of hard/soft coal.
If in the area of Saratoga Springs, NY come see her run and ride behind her sometime!

Thanks for the thread BigBarney!

DonB...I am going to show this thread to my 15 year old son. Since he was 3 years old he’s been glued to YouTube watching and learning about steam trains/steam power...here and across the big pond. He’s a young encyclopedia of steam locomotive knowledge and steal farm tractors as well as the large and small single cylinder engines. He will enjoy your pictures, as do I. That is some set-up you have there.

Hoytman, lots of videos out there regarding the steam hobby for your son to watch. My home track is a club called Adirondack Live Steamers. He might enjoy some of what has been posted on YouTube.
