Just to confiscate money, has nothing to do with climate and will have no effect. A far more lucrative tax would be a tax on bullshit however it would disproportionately affect the political class and we can't have that. A carbon tax is nothing more than a tax on production.

It's intended to bankrupt both the coal and natural gas industries, and will likely impact gasoline as well. The producers will of course have no choice other than to pass the cost onto the consumers or exit the industry, with the side intent of turning the consumers upon the evil of the capitalist producers who do not opt to exit.
