So for you mathmeticians out there. I believe I am basically at a wash or slightly more expensive burning coal currently versus propane. Here is the breakdown.
Lehigh Delivered to the house- $200.00 per ton
Propane Delivered to the house- $0.96 per gallon
Hitzer 50-93 efficiency? 65-70%
Condensing Furnace- 96% verified with combustion analyzer
Furnace blower measured at 6 amps at 123 volts. 738 watts
Electric bill is attached.
Anybody bored and want to crunch some numbers to see if I am nuts?
Propane cost same as Coal

yep its usually cheap in my area in the off season. I forget what the excuse was a few years ago, for a price gouge. Something like winter was too cold so the refineries ran out of propane or some stupitity of that nature. They were charging $5.15 a gallon for LP at that point.

Propane prices in late fall, early winter, have a fair amount to do with corn and bean harvests, mostly corn. If corn is high moisture at harvest and a good yield propane prices almost always go up. There arent a lot of NG grain dryers compared to propane except in towns. Then add in greed, real cold weather, shortages(human designed mostly) and they each raise the price. i forgot taxes. I call it midwest but most of you call it west, but propane taxes are lower here. They really ream many eastern states with taxes.
Im usually in that same boat with low propane prices but I dont have a high efficiency furnace, just a low efficiency space heater that isnt hooked up. I like hot spots but I probably should go about half and half for cost savings. I'd burn tires if they were cut up already and cheap, lol I never did like furnace blowers. I'd rather hear the wind.
