In my area coal is available for $250 per ton total, which includes delivery. This was a very recent increase from $235 per ton. Fuel oil on the other hand is $5 per gallon. When dividing BTUs of fuel oil into a ton of coal it turns out that 180 gallons of fuel oil would have the same heating potential as a ton of coal.. Said 180 gallons would cost around $900 at current pricing. This puts fuel oil at a factor of 3.6 times more expensive than coal. It's pretty hard to complain looking at it that way.. Electric at 21 cents per kilowatt is even much worse than fuel oil. $1230 for the same heating potential as a ton of coal, with the efficiency adjustment. A factor of almost 5 times.

Time to install a heat exchanger for the hot tub lol

Im paying $200 ton delivered so oil is off the charts for me and i do have oil backup which i never use. Also my KWh price is .14 all in including fees, taxes everything for central Pa from PPL (just went up from .12 in Dec21) ,21c Kwh seems very high.

And you can shop around for your best electric generated price deal.

Some deals can be had which can get price locked in for 3 years…although I wouldn’t recommend doing 3 years at this particular time.
There is a lot of solicitation by phone by questionable marketers pleading for switching providers. They like to offer gift cards etc and promise 20% savings. I get multiple calls a day with this and wonder how many customers have a weak moment and take the “bait”, This choice of providers was to make for competition but scammers marketers see it as a way to prey on the weak. Tis such a shame.

I used to do that but now for my zip code all the other suppliers have higher rates than my utility. I was paying 6c for generation last year now its 9c . Up 50% .

They came and filled up my oil tank today. 12 gallons @ $4.619 a gallon. Last fill was the beginning of December. The $170.00 & $180.00 a ton is looking great.

My mil got delivery last week, we use local farm supply company. They tend to treat people with animals better, imagine that. Delivery guy said price went to 5.05, but boss locked her delivery in at 4.80. A 62.50 savings isn't a lot but better than nothing I guess.

My dad said when it hit 8 cents my great grandfather switched back to coal.

Fred, don't you mean county tax ?

NYS does not tax heating fuels of any type, but a few NY counties do. My county is one of the ones that does not.
