Pulls the wagon, meets California's new regs for lawn mowers, and heats the house.

Each horse should get gov tax credits for being so "green". :D

Will someone please annihilate this thread into oblivion? If my wife sees any of this, there will be more horses in the barn by spring. Everyone is already getting $6 a small square around here, can't imagine what they will cost by fall.

Right now you can only get less than 40 gallons of heating oil for the price of a ton of coal delivered.

Be of good cheer as it will get worse, there is no hay it has all been sold. I did find a load of second cutting coastal hay. 70 pound bale .... $35. Really great stuff but still. Buy her a diamond tiarra instead it will be cheaper. Barns around here are busy folding their tent.

But what's coal going to cost this fall? Every 8 months or so we get a coal delivery and the price has gone up every time. got some last month and it was 249 a ton delivered to berks county. 220 a ton in october 2021.

It would be cheaper to have a 2nd wife, divorce included, then to buy hay for a herd of horses right now. My neighbors all have a bunch of them (horses, not extra wives :D ) so I get to see them without feeding them, a good arrangement.

Without fertilizer or tractors it will be tough to get wheat never mind hay. One major hay jockey over the road is not going to bother to enter the hay market this year. He is also the major firewood provider and was last heard of flying to USVI. To quote him .. it is just not worth it.

BUT---we wouldn't need to import anything if our Govt. would get their heads out of their ass's!!!
Most of the energy imports are because of logistics or special case. Coal for example is imported into the US, I haven't looked in a while but for thermal coal there was two plants that were major importers. One in Florida and one near the Canadian border. The one if Florida was getting it by ship from South America and the other from Canadian mine across the border.

Here is the data for oil:

The coal has alsways gone up during this energy spikes but it's always moderate increase. Of course the farther you are away form the source the more of an increase.

I did notice in business insider that coal has more than doubled in the last month and that China is burning as much as it can

I'm about 50 miles from the nearest breaker. If I took my 89 f-250 to Sherman it would cost me $100 in fuel for each ton. and if i took the toyota I would only feel safe hauling 1000 pounds because of the distance. used to haul up to 1800 pounds but was only going a few miles when I lived in Newtown. Was also about 500 lbs over gvwr. Yrs ago had a girlfriend that lived near Gowen City and we used to get coal for her house for for 110 bucks a ton. that was around 2008. coal from the Hegins breaker was 100 a ton when I moved to the area in 2005.

Yes and the TT load coming April4 is at a very fair price. Of course. I don't know trucking costs. One of the mysteries of the world is that anth is such great energy at such a great price why more people don't flock to it. I know some have logistical issues but still.
