How's Your Winter?

Here in the North East, winter has been pretty whimpy. (Fortunately). Only had to clear some snow once. Now we're approaching March, and the next few days are expected to be in the 50s. (I love global warming)
Of course there'll probably be a little "something" coming our way, but don't expect anything extreme. (I hope).
Only problem is, I still have a approx. 1/2 a ton of black rock that I need to burn. The 111 has been on low for a while, and if I don't burn it all this winter, I hope it doesn't go bad, laying around. ;)

How bout you? Been sweating in your home, from the extreme heat of coal burning? More unused coal piles built up, wondering where to store it in the summer months?

Gonna be a bad tick season...
Only had to shovel snow once...
Might have been 3 inches...
Might have a shot or two before April 20...
But won't stay too long...
Here on The Cape...

Ive blown quite a bit of snow but there have only been 2 of what I would call short cold spells here. Only hit -20 once, mostly above +10 at night. The 15 day forecast looks good. After that hell on earth of last winter I deserve this.

True... you better put an ad on craigslist so somebody can use it before it's too late.

Craiglist? Nah, I'ld rather give it to a member. Tell ya what Lee, "IF" my coal starts developing mold, then I'll send it to ya pony express. What-da-ya say?

Sounds good to me!!

It's been a mild winter here. The last report I saw for January was 20% fewer HDDs which is pretty remarkable. In contrast the Axe has been a little piggy it seems. Although, its heating a lot more than the hand fed furnace did. I have some efficiency work to do on the house and the salon building..

I am not sure about the overall temperature, but we have had a TON of big temperature swings. -20 one day and 32+ the next. Roads are looking pretty bad.

Don't worry Rob, I'm sure your town has nothing but good intentions, with all your hard earned tax dollars.

I cannot pick out a trend, but the weather pattern this year is the same as it was in 1994. It was a year when we had little snow, wide temperature swings, and an early spring. I remember my Grandfather saying that it was the earliest he had ever seen them post the road, but since 1994, posting the roads in January has happened quite a bit. I think that has more to do with policy though, and the overall size of trucks; than just weather though.

The lack of snow does not surprise me however, as our farm pond was full of water in the fall. When that is full in the fall, that means we will not have much snow, because the rain has already fallen. But if it is dry in the fall, watch out-because it will be full in the spring, meaning lots of snow.

I just make a lot of observations, and watch for trends.

For instance, since 2008, there has only been one year that I was not able to put my sheep out on pasture the second week of April.
