Yup, as predicted.

Another good reason why we should starve ourselves & kill our own economy to lighten the Worlds emissions.

Gimme a break, every man for himself.

So what’s that have to do with Japan other than they will be floundering in a sea of coal ash?

A lot of high-fiving was done on social media last year when Germany shut down their last coal mine. Which was an anthracite mine. The highly coveted smokeless stuff that German warships used in WWI. Immediately after that they had to reopen many lignite mines and fire up nasty lignite burning power plants that were kept at ready. Seems that the German all green, too soon plan made them slaves to the Russian "oil boys".

I didn't read the whole NY Times article before they locked it down to subscription. I wonder what form of coal they intend to burn. I would guess it will be Anthracite from Vietnam or Australia? They need to look to other generation as well if they've soured on nuclear. However, if they're designing brand new coal plants and intending to burn Anthracite, they could make them comparatively clean.

We are complaining about dumping coal ash but we wish to look the other way at this:

https://principia-scientific.org/50000-tons-of-us ... -landfill/

It goes around this forum about twice a year and at times I want to burn my eyes out. There is no free breakfast when it comes to generating a kilowatt but in the day and age of the Green Weenie Deal we Have been told different so we deliberately choose to ignore this basic fact.

It takes kilowatts to even produce a turbine blade or solar panel and it takes oil of all types to haul them around, build them, tear them down at the end of their lifespan. These things do not appear out of thin air. Perhaps one day we will have a turbine strapped to every roof and enough glass junk planted in the desert to catch a sunbeam or two. If 37% of this country’s power is still generated by steam coal at the present time, that tells me you have decades to go. I’m not saying don’t strive to do better soon but for now things are what they are.

So I say lead the charge at home, live by how you demand others to live. If you are still burning coal to heat your house, then you are still producing greenhouse gas and dumping ash everyday, no matter how tiny the amount. But apparently heating your home is different from producing electricity.

Bottom line, I grow so tired of watching coal get trashed in the media and on the internet, many of who are mis-informed. But I never will understand how folks can come on this forum and trash it tongue in cheek then go to the basement and throw another shovel-full on the fire.

And don’t anyone tell me I’m on this side because my job security is under fire, your too late for that. These trucks still roll out of here every morning whether there is coal to haul or not.

The end.

Perhaps they plan to dump the coal Ash in the ocean. Compared to radioactive water it probably seems like a small concern.

Ha, I never thought about that Rob... this will be ash-ishima.

Around here we mix lime with it to stabilize the PH and then backfill the old mine sites. When it’s all over and done they turn an old brownfield into a valuable piece of real estate. Everyone wins.

Most is recycled into products like concrete and drywall, there is good chance you are entirely surrounded by a product made from coal ash.
