Coal Size/Type: Nuts !
Other Heating: Oil &electric plenum furnace

One other thing I don't have to worry about with coal.......

My daughter posted pictures on Facebook of a shed snake skin,...... in her attached-garage wood pile. Said she found 6 more just like it ! :o

If we didn't keep a roaring fire going the wind gusts would sometimes cause puff-back smoke in the living room.
Before we got an insert, the wood fires would burn down, then smoulder, the draft would be gone by that point and we would have a cloud of horrible smoke inside.

The worst are the wood roaches!
Usually there are 2 or 3 underneath the bark of a piece of firewood, but one time the entire underside was covered with wood roaches ~ maybe 60+ of all ages, like a scene from a horror movie.
I started pulling the bark off in the garage before bringing the firewood inside.
