This morning Chris Crane, CEO of Exelon, announced that they will move forward with closure of the Three Mile Island plant and it will shut down by September 30, 2019. Exelon needed the bill to be passed by June 1st to support continued operation of TMI. Only three legislative voting session days remain prior to summer break and it is apparent that the June 1st date will not be met.

Simply, PA chose not to vote on it in time to support TMI. Do nothing and kick the can down the road. Not make a decision. This isn't about what is good for the community, its what the natural gas companies want and Govt officials not pissing off the large flow of funding being provided by the gas companies to support their re-election.

Beaver Valley will be next if they choose not to vote on it soon.

The bills proposed will provide equal credits for Zero Emissions Generation. Most simply stated, it levels the playing field for any generation that does not pollute like fossil fuels do. Every nuclear plant that closes will be replaced by natural gas, eliminating any progress made by wind or solar.

So will the banks as my reading of WSJ and Times both agree that productions of fracked wells are decreasing faster than expected.

Yes, I have 4 gas and 1 nuke within about 6 miles of my house. The one gas plant is older, the other 3 were built within the past 8 years. The last one just fired up about 3 months ago.

It's a real bad idea to ditch our reliable and relatively inexpensive power sources for gas that is temporarily abundant and cheap. As soon as all the coal and nuke plants shut down, the gas plants will start jacking up their rates.

Guess that will increase my electric rate seeing how it's a large % of our Co-Ops power but there again the spent rod storage is forever unless someone comes up with a use. Even when no longer producing power it will be a major expense!
