The cost is $.025/kwh. Did I miss something?

We can build a nuclear power plant on budget, fingers crossed.
The ash won't contaminate the water, fingers crossed.
I'll take the bet that the cost of sun light doesn't rise much even if someone crosse's their fingers since we've been getting that for years already.

Maybe this is an ideal situation where you have sun during the day

and the water flow 24 hours a day to be able to charge a large battery

for 24 hour coverage. Everything is available today to accomplish

this .

That would probably even lower the cost of the electric more over

the whole day and out compete all fosill fuels .

Nothing beats free energy and no waste produced...

Free ain't free.
And flat country, and/or, often cloudy areas, make hydro and solar easy to beat.

Sunlight is free to any landowner who wants to capture its

energy , there will always be some cost , but this has to

written off to the benefit of mankind.

Sunlight is one of the free guaranteed things every person has

access to to grow food ,heat water , make electric and live a

comfortable life..

Storage of any of the above will ensure that you never will be

without any essentials that you want to work hard for and attain

as defined by your needs and wants.

Therein lies the problem...
Nothing is free...
Ya just can't write it off...
Somebody pays for it...
I have to own land...
If I am truly "free" I won't own land...
Somebody might tax it...
I would be a nomad...
Go where I wished with no restrictions...
Now back to reality...
While the sunlight itself may be free...
Although the sun is consuming itself to give me the free sunlight...
Everything else about it comes with a direct cost...
The issue with producing power is it lives in an artificial world...
Power producers are a regulated enterprise...
If sunlight is such a great and inexpensive power source...
Why do I have one of the most expensive electric rates in the country...
Can't wait to see what happens when they shut down Pilgrim nuke plant...
There is 1500 acres surrounding it that are owned by the plant...
Maybe they should build a giant solar farm on it...
For FREE...

Free.....funny word, we all hear it a lot. There are places now that will fine you for catching rain water....it belongs to the world....how about the lawsuit when you put up your "free" windmill upwind of the next guys free windmill, stopping his wind? There have been lawsuits for blocking a view let alone the wind.....
Lets all pray to the sun god as it gives freely to all........
I think the Aztec have come back.......

CapeCoaler, are you saying your power is expensive because renewable power is making it that way?

In part...
The "green power" portion costs more to buy...
Artificial environments for power producers enacted by various government regulations...
MA is a very liberal state with a very green agenda...

Yeah, funny how so many things that are said to be "free" can so often get very expensive to actually get. :baby:

I wonder if BB could tell me how he'd get all that "free sunlight" that's stuck up on top of all that cloud cover we get so much of ? Seems it's too expensive around here, or I should be seeing lots of people putting up solar panels by now.

Simple answer, not enough "free" gov money to subsidize it Sunny! IF we dump another Trillion or so into it, I think it will be real free to people who go nowhere, do nothing, and live off-grid with a composting toilet that they grow their asparagus with......

Kevin,

Does Gov money make the sun shine through clouds ? I don't see any evidence of it around here.

But I do see people still spending time and money dealing with firewood, a lot of chimneys with smoke coming out of them, and the number of coal dealers within 20 miles has more than doubled in the past ten years. And if you go looking, you'd pass dozens of places using wood boilers while trying to find one solar panel.

I know all that is not free, so why isn't BB's free stuff being used more ? Maybe that free stuff doesn't work so well ?

You actually don't have to own land to harvest solar you

could live in your vehicle and stay on public roads, parks and

anywhere you could park for free and have solar panels on the

all the time . When the season changes you move on to sunnier

climates and enjoy all that is free....

There's no stopping solar only some type of work to acquire

what you need for it to be able to provide for you.

Who gives me the car and panels...
Pays the registration...
Excise taxes...
Tolls...
Oil changes...
Insurance...
Gas for the cloudy days I endure while traveling...
Parking fees for when there is no free parking...
