Ideal coal fired steam boiler
Hey guys, I thought I would share some pictures of a very old Ideal coal fired steam boiler. This boiler is in one of our oldest electrical substations. This station was probably built in the late 1800's or very early 1900's. I had to take pictures with the flash off because of how dusty it is in the building, but still managed to get some good ones. I have no idea how long it's been since it has seen a fire, but suspect it's been multiple decades.

I don't know what you mean by Braeburn Alloy Steel. If your suggesting thats where this boiler is located that's not the case. I can't give an exact location of where our electrical substations are located but will say this is within Pittsburgh city limits.

Roger on secret location. Braeburn Steel across Allegheny River from Tarentum is oldest EAF around Pittsburgh I know but not in city limits. Very little industry left in Pittsburgh City limits with own substation. That will be scrapped before put in use again?TJBender wrote: ↑Sun. It won't ever be used again. It was used to heat this substation back in the day when it was a manned station. The header pipe is cut off right past the first pipe hanger on the wall and the return is cut off at the back of the boiler. This will be it's resting place until the building it torn down, which won't be anytime soon. There is more than a handful of 4kv circuits feeding a couple neighborhoods out of this station.Bubbalowe wrote: ↑Sun. Jan. 20, 2019 7:23 pmRoger on secret location.
