I need a little help here guys and gals. Over the past year I have noticed that more and more coal burning units are being listed on Facebook, not CraigsList. Here is a prime example.

This is a pretty good looking EFM "UFR" conversion stoker.
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/337433890406843/

The problem is, when you click to get more information, it just brings up a login window. I have not been able to find a way around this.

Does this mean you can only get more information if you have an account?

Is there a way around this?

I ask because it seems like there is some interesting stuff for sale on there but there is no way I will ever let Facebook have any of my information. I prefer that they don't know I exist.

Use a fake name and other info but never ever send someone a message telling someone who you actually are or FB will catch it and end the account. They want peoples real names so they can profit from it as you know already. Dont put on any pics and ignore all their requests for more info. Then you have to message the seller with your phone number or other contact info. CL is not what it used to be.

You probably need an account, unless they list it as PUBLIC, but I think you would need an account on FaceBook to contact them, unfortunately. or have a friend that has a FB account get the info.

if have a FB account and I didn't even need to sign in to use the market place pages, including using the menu on the left to narrow the choices. Just clicked on StokerDan's link.

Even though I log out each time I'm done, whenever I go to Face Book, it recognizes my computer and puts my email address in the box. I only have to put in my password when I go to it.

So, I guess I do exist. :D

I noticed Facebook marketplace a while back for quite a few different things than just coal related items. Some good deals on tools pop up now and then. I set up and use a fake facebook identity and i have a "burner" email account that is only used for Facebook, CL, Letgo, etc. :stfu:

There is a ton of spam email that comes in on that account....

and its easy to ignore it all!

Yep - easy enough to sign up with an Alias, but that may seem shady to sellers when you try to contact them about an item.

The sellers have zero idea that you have a fake name unless you tell them.

There are lots of reasons. Just using myself as an example I think there are 4 people in the world with my name and 1 other in this country. So any collector and help type groups (in similar fashion to this site) I join or posts I would make would pretty much be public info at some point. For me that is nobodies business but mine. And if some nut job on one of those group sites wanted to they could find my address and rob me of the things I post about owning, just from viewing my posts and getting my name.

Its not that uncommon if you search the news. Now if absolutely all I wanted an account for was the classifieds it may not matter.

Heck Im still mad about getting a street address 10 years ago instead of a rural route box number I had, just for the fact that I can be found online now, where I live, pictures of my house, and that wasnt possible before that happened. but thats just me. Privacy is always important to me.

Well said. Facebook is an OPSEC nightmare and there is absolutely nothing private about any part of it. What ever information they haven't sold to third parties, has been data breached and taken.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I guess its get a fake account or find a freind that has one.

It's baffling to me that they would create a completely closed market place. That sure puts a limit on potential buyers.
