Coal prices. Got it at and auction recently!

Stoker Coal Boiler: Gentleman Janitor GJ-5, Van Wert VA-600, Axeman Anderson130 X3.
Hand Fed Coal Furnace: Harman SF3500 reduced down to 3 grates connected to its own plenum
Coal Size/Type: Rice, Chestnut and whatever will fit through the door on the Harman
Other Heating: Noth'in but COAL! Well, Maybe a little tiny bit of wood

Wow, you can see from the pricing that coal stokers must not have been popular at that time! Rice and Buck are way, way cheaper than Nut and Stove. I wonder what year it is from?

Notice Lehigh was selling coal at different prices .I have some monthly Lehigh reports that they were selling Rice An Buck at lest then cost of production .Sort of disposal of junk .After all my thouhts is A Ton Of Coal all is the same .By 1954 The Company Was near Bankruptcy .Sad jack

Really nice sign, Jack. Did you find it at a public auction?

My earliest coal buying experiences were paying $48 a ton for delivered rice in 1978. That was from a feed mill middleman. In about 1979, an uncle of mine bought 75 tons of nut at $25. a ton. The thing is, he didn't even burn nut coal. He would just chuckle when I asked him why he did that. The second oil crisis was going on and I suppose he thought it would skyrocket in value. He passed the next year and I'm not sure what happened to that coal. I guess that coal really hasn't gone up more than the general cost of living.
