Why do people complain about electric prices????
Here's an ad for a Detroit electric car in 1916 ... note the price of electric to petrol...
Electric in 1916 was $.08 per KWHr -------------- Gasoline was $.23 per gallon
Now electric is $0.15 per KWHr ------------- Gasoline is $3.05 per gallon
Electric up ~ 50% in 102 years --------------- Gasoline up ~1300% in 102 years
Why worry about electric costs which are falling and oil going up ????
The increase in electric cost to consumers is not the cost of the electricity but
the cost to maintain a distribution network grid .
Note the price of the car $2125 when the petrol cars cost less than $300 .
Coal price in 1917 was $7.50 for anthracite (white ash) and bituminous
was $3.50 per ton in Pittsburgh PA. . Each city has a different price .
https://fraser.stlouisfed.org/content/?item_id=53 ... 8_1917.pdf
So 7x as much , so a Tesla at $75,000 seems to be a bargain ,about 7x as much
as the least expensive ICE vehicle . Also the improvements are probably worth
another 7x so it is a real steal . Average wages were $0.24 - $0.55 per hour in 1916 .

For families struggling to make ends meet, $75,000 cars are clearly out of the question. Many hard working Americans would have trouble making the monthly payments on a $10,000 car, let alone $75,000. The sales tax alone on $75,000 would be over $5,000. So the real cost would be over $80,000.
How would you expect the average Joe to be able to afford an $80,000+ vehicle?

AMEN! The only thing you missed was the added insurance cost which would be very high and the high yearly licence plates in those states that charge by the cars value.... and maybe a tow truck a couple times for when it runs out of power.lsayre wrote: ↑Mon. Here's why I complain. I experienced a single month heating bill of $600 with electricity, and that was back when it was well less expensive than it is now. Now my heating cost is comparable to way less expensive natural gas.

Yep, could be the Clinton Foundation as Im sure they are bored now. Or a salesman of the cars, like the Harman stove salesman a few years ago before they sold to Legacy.
That is a neat ad. I dont think electricity was 8 cents a KW back then though. It must mean 8 cents per ???? Charge? or some other unit?

Please don’t anyone make him stop, it used to be somewhat annoying... sort of like smashing my head through a wall but I now get my daily jollies on reading his endless babble.hotblast1357 wrote: ↑Mon. I don't understand the hostility toward electric cars. I don't want one at this point, but they are viable and will be more so at some point as batteries improve. Lessening demand on gas is a good thing to keep prices down. A mix of fuels is good as each evolves.
Electric cars still have no long term, heavy duty use, so remain unproven, even if Tesla survives I suspect an avalanche of service problems as they age.

And who has that kind of money without taking a loan? Don't forget about interest.
My 2004 Jeep was $5500 with 104,000 miles on it 7 years ago. It recently passed 150,000 miles. I've probably put $5000 into since purchase but that still only works out to $125 a month. I make a decent wage compared to many in my area but I will never see myself spending 75 grand on anything, let alone a vehicle lol.

It’s not towards the cars, I like electric things for the most part, I see them more as a convenience.. but not a reliable tool, no matter what the electric thing is...
It’s pushy people that can’t reason with anyone.

I could see an electric car being a good choice as a secondary vehicle. Such as a grocery getter or back and forth to work, if it's close, maybe. Can I buy one for 5 grand?
