We are extending the season down here below the mason dixon line! :D
Snow has started this morning after a night of misting rain and sleet put a coating of ice on the trees. I hope the wind stays calm so we don't get the broken branch power outages from the ice build up.

They are calling for up to 8" today which probably means about 3" for us.
Happy second day of Spring!!! :o

Snowing in RI, we are supposed to get 4-8 and up to 50 mph wind gusts. Just like last week and the week before and the week before. March is turning out to be worse than February.

First round of snow removal from the deck and walkway, was able to move it off with the push broom - About 3".
Gonna wait until later to get the tractor out for the driveway....Seat Time!!

We're at 8.5 inches with another 3 or 4 inches expected. No high wind gusts, yet, which doesn't disappoint. Right on the 60th anniversary date of the 1958 blizzard. I'm glad that I picked up an extra half ton last week.

Around 8-9 inches at this time and it's still dumping it down as I type. Spent the better part of the day on the Kobelco digging the place out. Times like now I am very grateful that we have suitable equipment to move it.

Sold more coal in the last week and a half than we did the entire month of February. Everyone around this place is pretty well tuckered out, could use some rest.

CJ, by your avatar, looks like you've got a nice pair of heavy equipment vehicles. You should be able to move mountains, and scarf at what-ever mother nature throws at you. And I'm glad to hear business is good. I like to think of it as "job security". :)

5" yesterday, heavy wet snow has fallen all day here, still coming down... 10" of solid snow on the ground & still adding up,winds at 25 mph for tonite & tomorrow . I didn't put the plow on my truck, might not even bother plowing at all. I have 15 tractors to work on here already & 2 more to pick up Fri. Snow should melt one of these days.

Yes, at that time. Wound up with about 12-13 inches. Just a few flakes coming down now. Some areas to the East of here got about 16 in.

Ran my KA-6 for the entire year last year for hot water in summer instead of turning on the tankless oil boiler. Use almost a whole tank of oil for hot water from 6/1 to 10/1. it is cheaper by far to burn coal for the summer. Probably use a 1/2 bag/day at $2.10/bag which is about $160 for the 5 months. Tank of oil for the same period - $500 or so. It has now run pretty much non-stop for 18 months except for 3 clean-outs and maybe 2 power outages.

Surprised to see that kind of oil use for 4 months of hot water. That would be $125 a month or $1500 a year. You must have some heavy HW demand. I used about $400 in KW a year with a conventional electric water heater for a family of 4. Now its $120 a year in Kw with a HPWH. A lot less than i could do it with my coal stoker.

Probably more like $100/month if using oil. Yes it is a 25+ year old, 3 section HB Smith boiler. I will have to burn oil at some point though; the oil in the tank is 2+ years old now.

Sorry guys, I screwed up on my math on my last post. I am purchasing coal for $210/ton, but using about a 1/2 bag a day in the summer months for domestic hot water. I am paying $2.10 a day for that 1/2 bag of coal which comes out to about $315 for 5 months running from 6/1 to 10/30. It is still about $275 less than if I was burning oil in my tankless boiler for the same amount of time.
