You could free up some space with mini breakers.

Run the power line into a sub-panel,install in there what is needed for the interlock & from there feed the main panel.

Your panel looks better than mine. My solution is to just run extension cords, but my generator is quite small.

That David is smart. Large generators take a huge amount of care and feeding and you soon run out of fuel.

Thats what i have done in the past and it works fine, but you just dont get to run as many circuits. I just installed big extension cord to backfeed the panel with L6-30s for this last storm but it was a dud and didnt get to use the gen.

Answer to questions about battery or generator backup...

https://www.generac.com/service-support/faqs/home ... ery-backup

Tesla has now completed the software update to be able to go both in and out of the

Powerwall with the car connected to the house. This enables you to charge the

Powerwall with solar , grid, or car battery . Nice to have that 85KW battery to

power your house in an emergency , especially if set up to automatic transfer to

designated essential circuits .

Jack Ricard has done this with the recycled Tesla battery to power his shop

whether the power line is on or not , and his solar array will keep it going

a long time. Many videos and all interesting...
