Howdy all, I have a floating floor and was told to cut some floor away from the front of a new stove. I would prefer not cutting it in favor of a nice thick hearth rug. I went to LL Bean and they look nice, but made in China. First, is not removing more floor safe to do (concrete floor); and second, who makes the best hearth rug? I hope to get a couple of options. Looks like wool is the way to go, but I don't know where to look...the web has dozens of sites selling them. Thanks all!

I got a fiberglass hearth rug for in front of my stove that is 2ft by 4ft. On in top of that i put a piece of 1/2 in slate which is smaller than the rug and that is up against the front of the stove. Figured the slate give a lot more protection and also is easier to clean after removing the ash.

Hearth rug should have a UL listing. In MA that is a requirement.

Thanks all, I'll take a photo next time I am there. I like everyone's comments but still concerned about the heat and floating floor. Hopefully not a problem.

Could construct a removable wood framed hearth with a 1" air space between finished floor & top of removable hearth that you could then place your hearth rug on.
