and there go Rob it's say a $40,000 install. So . how much coal is saved over say an EFM 1300 and what is the ROI? As I am only burning $2500 of coal a year and I demand 10% at least it can never ever ever pay back ... you know just like solar. You are confusing me with farmers on Rouses Point who wish to expand there fields to plant more recreational drugs. I have a 30 ton loader I could move anything with enough effort but it's just not worth it. Sorry guys, a central POH is just plain stupid. However, I give you both a D- for effort. and a plain F for common sense.

To me it's not worth the Fuss & Bother to try to pipe those buildings together, but some people might want to know your thoughts about applying the central heating concept within each building. For many people, esp. with larger properties, that became popular in, like, the 18th and 19th centuries. I know there was a time when even used coal central heating equipment tended to be pretty pricey, but if such equipment were reasonably priced, would it ever put a dent in your armada of stoves and such?

The time tending his stoves alone vs say 3 stoker boilers would be night and day!
You can lead a horse to water... lol
All joking aside to each is there own!

Yes, I found this funny because I once had a horse that you really couldn't lead to water. He'd drink it from a bucket or a trough, but don't let there be any minnows in the pond. Once on a trail ride that otherwise was uneventful, he figured out that he was going to be asked to walk through a brook, and without warning simply launched himself from one bank to the other. I got the message after that. So I accept that cn may be that one horse you can't lead to water...errr, central heat.

You said you were looking for a contractor, not a financial review of your heating options. My post was made in jest, but if you want a serious recommendation for a quick ROI, I would suggest getting rid of the horses and not heating the buildings.

Why do horse stalls need to be heated anyways?

Simon can provide his usage figures, but I think much of his coal is burned in the house. Most horses do not need heated stalls, but a wash area, riding ring, office,.etc will need some heat.
I am not trying to sound anti horse, but my experience with them was about the same as a boat...winter storage was the least of the cost concerns.

I’m sure that house takes some coal to heat!
The eshland 260 I think would like to heat that house and the other dark brown building!

Depending upon which of the nearby back yard weather stations I choose to look at, the low around here last night (at about 2:15 AM) ranged from zero to +3 degrees. We should get a few more inches of snow today. Looks like the NOAA's prediction for higher than normal precipitation in Ohio this winter may actually prove to be correct.

One blessing to cold weather is no snow shoveling. The colder it gets here, the less snow we get. Only got up to 15F yesterday and minus 2 F this morning.
But, the colder it gets it doesn't save on having to use a shovel, ....... it means shoveling more coal instead.
